Where will we be staying?

Friends are staying at the Greyfield Inn, which we've reserved for the whole weekend, and family will be staying at the McFadden homes. What information will you need from me after I RSVP?

Once we receive your RSVP, we'll follow up with everything the Greyfield Inn needs from you, including:

What's actually on Cumberland Island?

Cumberland Island is a beautiful, largely undeveloped barrier island with the Greyfield Inn, a few private homes, and some National Park Service buildings. There are no shops, restaurants, or stores on the island, just miles of undeveloped coastline.

Can I run out to grab something I forgot?

No. Once you're on the island, there isn't anywhere to run out and pick something up. There is no convenience store, pharmacy, or coffee shop.

Please pack anything you think you'll need for the weekend, including smaller items like eye drops, phone chargers, sunscreen, bug spray, and any medications.

The inn provides bathrobes, beach towels, irons, hairdryers, and other standard amenities, so you can leave those at home.

The Greyfield Inn Shop also carries a small selection of essentials, including sunscreen, insect repellent, books, clothing, and some medications, but we recommend bringing anything specific you may need.

What should we pack?

Pack light! Luggage is handled by several different staff members on the way to the island, so the inn asks that suitcases and bags weigh 25 pounds or less whenever possible.

Be sure to check the Schedule for the attire for each event, and remember to pack appropriate wedding attire for the ceremony and reception.

Cumberland Island is rugged, with sandy paths and beaches, so comfortable shoes and bathing suits are recommended. You'll also want anything else you would normally bring for a weekend outdoors.

What is the weather usually like in May?

May on the Georgia coast is typically warm and pleasant, with daytime temperatures generally in the 80s and evenings in the 60s. It can also be humid, and rain and thunderstorms are possible, so we recommend bringing a light layer and something suitable for wet weather.

In short, plan for warm weather, sunshine, and the possibility of rain.

How do we get to the island?

Cumberland Island is accessible only by boat, via the Greyfield Inn's private ferry from Fernandina Beach, Florida. Everything you need to plan the trip, including ferry times, flight advice, where to stay Thursday night, and what to do if you miss the boat, lives on the Travel and Lodging page.

What about meals and dietary restrictions?

Meals are included throughout your stay at the inn. The inn can accommodate dietary restrictions and offers vegan options. Please let us know about any dietary restrictions when you RSVP.

What time are meals?

We'll share more details about dinner timing and the weekend's meals with guests during the weekend.

Is there cell service or WiFi?

Cell service is limited, and WiFi is not standard at the inn. We recommend planning accordingly and taking the opportunity to unplug for the weekend.

What should I wear?

Attire for each event is listed on the Schedule page.

Cumberland Island has lots of sandy paths and beaches, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
